Meet The Team

Dr Kishor Vithlani

dr vithlaniI was born and grew up in Uganda where I completed my schooling. By the time I had gradated from Medical School I was in Vadodara India from where I moved to Britain and for my Surgical Qualifications in 1987 from the Royal College of surgeons of Edinburgh.

I have been a General Practitioner since 1990 and before moving to this practice worked in the following positions, Alder Hey A&E dept (1979-1989) Liverpool University (2001-Present).

When I was given the opportunity to Take over this practice following the retirement of Dr Saverimuttu I jumped at the chance, after all it wasn't too far from where I was working and allowed me to maintain my interest in teaching. The close proximity of this practice to the university is ideal for the training of medical students. I hope that it is not inconvenient for patients to have medical students in the room while they are having their consultations, as this is invaluable experience for the students. I run minor surgery clinc once per week, providing dermatology based minor procedures for our patients and patients of other local surgeries.

Dr Jorge Laya Gomez

I was born in Melide La Coruna which can be found in the north west of Spain. I studied in Universidade of Santiago de Compostela and got my LMS-MBchB there in 1994.

In 2000 I completed my T.G.P, the vocational training which qualifies me to work as a GP all over Europe. My training there was very similar to the kind of training that Doctors receive here and so I had no problem fitting in to the NHS. I have worked in Spain as a GP since I got my qualification moving through several jobs and even being unemployed for short periods.

I have professional interests in:

  • Diabetes
  • Minor Surgery
  • Family Planning
  • Minor Surgery Course
  • Child Surveillance

Dr Lakhani was born in Epsom but grew up in Liverpool. He graduated from University of Liverpool Medical School in 2002. At this stage he knew he wanted to pursue a career in General Practice and embarked on GP training. He was fortunate to complete one year of this training in Sydney, Australia where he learnt about a different health care system and he strongly believes this has given him invaluable experience.

He completed his GP training after returning to the UK and passed the Royal College of General Practitioners membership exam with Distinction in 2006. In addition to this he also has completed diplomas in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Family Planning.

Dr Lakhani joined his father's practice at Abercromby Health Centre in March 2007. The practice subsequently merged with Dr Vithlani's practice.

Dr Lakhani has professional interests in child health surveillance, family planning, joint injections as well as teaching. He regularly teaches medical students and is a GP Trainer - he supervises GPs during their three year training period. He is also a GP Appraiser - helping other doctors through their annual appraisal and five-yearly Revalidation.
